Trick or Treat!!!
This year, we were fortunate to be invited to a Halloween party in one of the most popular trick-or-treating neighborhoods in town. This was not only a nice social opportunity for us, but very helpful as we currently live outside of town in a trick-or-treating unfriendly area. My friend Debbie hosts a party every year for a few families from the college. Since they live in such a popular neighborhood, they've embraced the situation as a chance to play gracious hosts to others. There was a potluck dinner followed by trick-or-treating in the neighborhood. This was unlike anything we've experienced before. The country club neighborhood, though technically in the city limits, is really on the edge of town and has a quiet, country feel. There are no sidewalks, and there are pretty big yards between houses, so most people that come there to trick-or-treat drive incredibly slowly through the area, stopping whenever they need to let their kids out (often stopping in the middle of the road). It was pretty normal to see everything from decorated golf carts and hayrides to SUVs stopping every little bit and popping open the hatch to let a ton of kids pour out the back. Long story short (I know, I know too late)....it was kind of chaotic. But the kids had fun, which was what was really important. The party was great too, and our hosts were very generous and seemed to enjoy our kids.

Serious candy trading ensued after the trick-or-treating. This was helpful for the older kids with braces to offload their chewy candy, and for Nathan to offload anything with nuts.
Candy swapping is serious business:
Hope everyone out there had a great Halloween. We're now looking forward to Thanksgiving!
