Let them Eat Cake

Last week Laura and I had our second official cooking time together. Thanks to both grandmas having the same great idea for Christmas, Laura now has a subscription to High Five magazine (Highlights' preschool magazine). Each issue has a kids' recipe in it that is simple and meant to be made together with an adult. In January we made Strawberry Yogurt popsicles. The last issue's recipe was for lemon cake, so Laura and I decided to try it. She had so much fun standing on her little step stool and helping me measure the sugar and flour. She also got to dump the ingredients into the bowl and stir everything with a whisk. We talked about measurements and the numbers associated with them, as well as the numbers on the oven timer. She had so much fun that several times since she's come into the kitchen while I'm cooking and asked to help me stir things. She even likes reading the High Five recipes aloud at bedtime with her other stories. It's fun to watch her play with her toy kitchen and mimic what she's learning. Oh, and I forgot the best part......she loved eating our finished product too! (And so did her little brother!)
