Summer's comin'......

The days keep getting longer, and the temperatures are rising. Summer is definitely around the corner. We have been enjoying settling into a new routine with Cliff home more for the summer. Here are some updates on each of us.

Cliff has been working diligently on 2 projects these days: an article for an upcoming publication and the early work on his dissertation. He has the article drafted and is ready to make revisions, and as of a day or two ago, he officially has words on paper (or computer, I guess) for the very start of his dissertation. In addition to his projects, he continues to work his part-time job for the arts company here in town, cycle when he can and enjoy some much-needed relaxation.

I have taken on some additional part-time work at the YMCA this summer as a child care provider. The work is nice because some of the shifts are right after my water aerobics class, so I just shower and go on to my next job at the Y. I get to play with little kids, snuggle newborn babies (my preferred area to 'work' in), and best of all, my kids can come with me. Nathan thinks it's really cool when he and Mommy get to eat lunch together at the child watch. I am also managing to sneak in some time to read and scrapbook.

Nathan is starting to sit on his potty a few times each day to begin getting used to it. He's even managed to go in it a few times; you have to start somewhere! His latest obsession is asking questions ("Why that there?", etc.), particularly "What that called?" He can sit and ask me these kinds of questions constantly at times, especially when he's sitting on the potty. It's cool to see how interested he is in expanding his vocabulary right now.

Laura has a few more weeks of preschool left before summer break. She is learning to write numbers, and she continues to be obsessed with wearing skirts or dresses and dancing to female singers. I honestly do not know how someone like me ended up with such a girly girl! Her other latest accomplishment is that she is learning to ride a bike. We found a good, solid girls bike on Craigslist for a very good price, and so now evenings are spent outside with Dad running along side Laura coaching and catching the falls when possible. She has been progressing quickly (her bike has no training wheels), and Cliff can let go for longer and longer periods of time. Now they are working on how to get on and start pedaling right away and how to brake.

Because of my new job at the child watch, we needed to upgrade to a family membership at the Y so the kids could go to work with me (which I get at a very reduced rate as an employee). We have now started weekly trips to the pool as a family. The Y on the south side of town has an outdoor pool, so we are looking forward to swimming under the sunshine all summer!

Hey DAD, good job with the bike education. Soon she will be trying to keep up with you on those long rides.
