Well, another school year has come and gone. As teachers, we've been used to living our lives around the academic calendar, but now, we view the school year through the lens of parents as well. I don't think the years go by as quickly when you're teaching as they do when you're watching your own child grow up. Yesterday was Laura's last day of kindergarten, and thus her last day of school at Meadow Lane Elementary. She's had a great 2 years there, first in half-day preschool and now full-day kindergarten. She brought home a bag of her work on Thursday. It is amazing to go through her Writer's Workshop folder and see the progress in her writing ability throughout the year. When she started school, she knew her alphabet and numbers to 100 or so. She could read some words from her sight words flash cards. Now, she is venturing into her first chapter books and can plan and write a nice little story on her own, and she is quickly mastering basic addition and subtraction. We will hopefully know in a couple of weeks where she will attend first grade, but for now, we bid farewell to Meadow Lane with a big thank you to all of the great teachers that broadened our little girl's horizons in so many ways.
This pose was her idea--pretending to wave goodbye on her way out our door yesterday morning.

Last day of school-ready to leave!

Our last morning drop-off outside school.

For the last hour of kindergarten, the parents were invited into class for a party and program presented by the kids. They performed some songs for us, we had snacks, and we watched an end-of-the-year video. Each kid was sent home with a gift bag from the teacher that included some memory books with pictures from the school year and a DVD copy of the video.
This sure was a cold, hard dose of reality for all of us parents entering the kindergarten wing!!

The whole class performing "Lettercise."

Laura "Lettercising" next to her good gal pal, Alejandra.

Time for cupcakes and Capri Sun!

Laura will miss you, Mrs. Schroeder!!!!
