Cliff finished his coursework at UNL at the beginning of the month, his last coursework ever as a student! As we've watched some of our neighbors graduate and prepare to move out, we see a glimpse of what's ahead for us in a couple of months. Now Cliff is in full-on "finish the dissertation" mode. He has been busy revising his previous chapters, analyzing his data, and writing the remaining chapters. This document is the last step before he becomes, for here and evermore, "Dr. Towner." He's on track for an early July defense of his dissertation and an August graduation.
The kids have been busy with classes at the Y. We are enjoying our wonderful Y as much as possible while we still have it!! Both kids took swim lessons and gymnastics during the spring session. This was Nathan's first time in swim lessons, and he's coming along slowly but surely. Laura is doing very, very well in her lessons and loving every minute of it. Both kids are taking another session of swim now, and will take one last session of gymnastics right before we move. We have been so fortunate to have access to such a wonderful YMCA facility. We will miss it very much!
Laura is 5 days away from the end of kindergarten. She has been very busy at school learning basic addition & subtraction, how to count coins, all about eagles, all about plants, and much, much more. Today was a big day for her. I brought home some chapter books for her that I found at a clothing exchange. She promptly dove into one, and is already 2 chapters in. Her first chapter book before kindergarten is even out! We are very proud of her!!
Nathan is doing very, very well on his potty training. He continues to get more and more independent in this process. He has also started doing some workbooks at home with Mom. He is learning to draw lines between matching items, circle items according to instructions, and count items more independently. His pencil grip is a work in progress, but we'll keep practicing that. :)
As for me, I am enjoying my remaining weeks with my wonderful friends in the pool, my morning water fitness class. These seniors have become such a source of joy for me; I will miss them and their great collective sense of humor very much when we leave!
And now for some pictures.......
Helping Mom bake some cookies. Laura is the "sprinkle girl".
Laura swimming without any assistance-look at that intense expression!
Last week's trip to the state museum at Morrill Hall on campus was fun!
At Morrill Hall, we saw real and replica dinosaurs, plus many other animals. The kids enjoyed learning about evolution and the history of living things.
We hope spring is treating you all as well as it has us!
