Atlanta & Albany

The last few weekends have been all about road trips. First, there was the Labor Day weekend trip up to NC. The following Saturday, we headed up to our new state's capitol for the day. Cliff's aunt and her family have relocated to Tennessee, which means his grandma is relocating there too. Cliff's dad flew to Sarasota and back to pick Grandma up; a long day of travel for them, but a potentially boring day of waiting in Atlanta for Cliff's mom. So, we took the opportunity to both keep her company while she waited and see a new city. We spent our day downtown at Centennial Olympic Park, which is a beautiful park commemorating the '96 summer games held in Atlanta. Unfortunately, the Olympic rings fountain was under construction, so the kids didn't get to play in it like we'd hoped, but the 2 playgrounds and open space to run more than made up for it.

Ready to play the day away!

Lunch at Googie Burger in the park. They served the kids' meals on frisbees. :)

There were stone pillars with the names of the medal winners in every event in the '96 games. I idolized these gymnasts.

This was Nathan's first time meeting his Great Grandma T., and Laura hadn't seen her since she was 1. It was a brief visit, but long overdue.

This one is for you, Dad. We drove right past your mother ship. ;)

An added bonus to the day.......our dog, Candide, whom we had to give away 2 years ago, lives in suburban Atlanta. We surprised the kids with a visit!
She's still a beautiful, happy girl!

This last weekend, we headed to SW Georgia to the city of Albany. Cliff was invited to judge a marching band festival, so the kids and I tagged along to get out of town for the day. We had a lovely day together at the park downtown on the Flint River, followed by shopping at Kohl's (that one was for me!), fries & Frostys at Wendy's and a walk through the mall. The only wrench in the day is that my theory of leaving behind my fall allergies in the Midwest was completely shot while at the park that day. Let's just say I based our departure time from the park on when I ran out of tissues in my purse. Yuck!

Lunch at the park before playing.

Having fun!

After we picked Cliff up, we capped off our day with dinner at a sports bar. We asked for a seat by a TV with the Husker game on. Yea, that got us a strange look, but we didn't care; we got to watch our team for the first time this season! As it turned out, our server used to live in little Sheldon, Iowa, only an hour or so north of Sioux City. Small world!

It's been a great few weeks, but we are actually looking forward to spending this weekend at home. :)

pYour Kids are so cute. Virg and I really enjoy you FB posting with pics of the kids. My Mom looks so much like her mother. Hope the visit with her was good for the kids.

Thanks! We enjoy sharing, especially with family spread out all over the country. The visit was good. She was, of course, pretty confused by everything happening that day, but she seemed to enjoy watching the kids be kids, which I'm sure was therapeutic for her with all of the changes taking place.
