Rewind to December

It has been a busy month in our house. This is the most we've traveled over the holidays in quite some time, so life is finally starting to get back to feeling normal once again. I thought I'd take a moment to rewind to some highlights from the end of 2011 in our house.

Christmas Day is getting more and more fun for us with the ages of our kids right now. Cliff had to play a church gig on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, but otherwise, our day was spent relaxing at home and watching the kids enjoy their presents. Cliff and I spent time arranging the display under the tree late on Christmas Eve; we even set up one new toy for each kid so they could play until we got up the next day. Little did we know that 8:00 would come around, we would be awake, and the kids would still be sound asleep! Guess that trip to Ohio really wore them out! They finally came out of their rooms around 8:30, and we dug in to the presents.

The display waiting for the kids in the morning:

Can you tell Laura was just a tiny bit excited to finally get her long awaited gymnastics leotard??
It's great when a $2 set of Crayola watercolors can bring this much joy to a kid. He and Laura spent a lot of time later that afternoon creating masterpieces.
The kids enjoying their loot:

A couple of days after Christmas, we left for our annual year-end family retreat. This year, thanks to the advice of a local friend, we chose to stay in a cabin at a nearby state park. We had a great few days of relaxing together. The kids spent a lot of time playing with their new Christmas presents, both on their own and with us.

Working on new Christmas puzzles:

Our cabin sat right on a lake; this was the view from our porch both mornings:

The kids called this "wearing the couch":
I always enjoy the chance to dive into my scrapbooking projects on these retreats:
We took advantage of the mini golf course at the state park. It was only about 45 degrees, so we had the whole place to ourselves. It was definitely a highlight of the trip for all 4 of us.
After we returned home, we had a few days to unpack, do laundry and repack for our big week at Disney the following week. More posts on that soon........
