Gobble, gobble!

Thanksgiving week is one of my favorite weeks of the year.  Not only is Thanksgiving one of my very favorite holidays, but for some reason, I have always found this one of the most relaxing times for me.  Maybe it's because it always falls at the point in the semester when you just desperately need a break; I've lived my life on the academic calendar for so long, I guess I just associate this week with some time off and some time to unwind before the craziness of the end of the semester.  Anyway, we had a fabulous week at home.  The kids were off of school for the whole week, and the college was off starting Wednesday.  We pretty much never left the house for at least 3 days of the break.  We relaxed, cooked great food, played, watched lots of football and basketball...and I finished a book for once!  Also, Cliff and I finally fulfilled our quest to watch all 10 Thanksgiving episodes of Friends on one Thanksgiving.  So fun!

To prepare for Thanksgiving, Nathan and I did several holiday-related projects the week before in preschool.

We made a turkey tambourine!  It has dry rice stapled inside to make a great "musical" sound.  (Really, it sounds more like a maraca, but "turkey tambourine" sounded better in the craft book, I guess!)

Nathan made his own "Thanksgiving plate".  Although I used it as a follow-up to a previous lesson on nutrition and meals that represent all of the food groups, it was clear that the pumpkin pie and Cool Whip (2 containers, no less) were what mattered most to Nathan!

This was a fun project; we made a Thanksgiving placemat!
The placemat project was so fun that Laura, Nathan and I each made one Thanksgiving morning so we'd have 4 total-one for each of us!

The table, all set for the first course (salad) on Thanksgiving day.  Look at those awesome placemats!  (And the 7 Deadly Zins bottle of wine wasn't half bad either!)
The day after Thanksgiving, we spent the middle of the day watching our Huskers beat Iowa and claim their spot in the B1G championship game next weekend.  After the game, we decorated the house for Christmas.  Honestly, Cliff and I were not at all in the mood to do this, but the kids were pretty fired up for it.  It still just seems unnatural to think about Christmas when it's 70 degrees outside.  I'm not complaining (I LOVE the weather); it just feels odd.

The kids were very eager to help set up the tree!

Laura loved having a week at home, and she LOVED spending the holiday weekend playing a new favorite video game with her Dad!
Now, we hold on tight for the busy weeks ahead before we head off for our holiday travels.  Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving too!
