School Time 2013!

I'm going to take a brief break from vacation posts to announce the start of a new school year in our house.  This one's a big, big one because it involves both kids!  On Wednesday, we went to open house to meet the kids' teachers.  We were thrilled to learn that Nathan would be in Mrs. Wood's class.  She is a very experienced, very well-loved teacher, and Nathan is so lucky to have her.  (And we think she's awfully lucky to have him too!)

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get a picture of Laura with her new teacher, Mrs. Giddens, because it was pretty busy when we were in her room.  Laura loves her already and is looking forward to a great year in third grade.  A new twist for her this year is that she will be traveling a bit.  Mrs. Giddens will be her homeroom teacher and math teacher, but she will travel to Ms. Castillo for science and social studies and Mrs. Thornton for English/reading/language arts.  This should be beneficial to both the students and the teachers.

Last night, the night before the big first day, Nathan had a little trouble going to sleep because he was nervous about school.  I wasn't sure what to expect this morning, but much to our delight, he got out of bed and practically threw on his school uniform in anticipation.  Laura was up and dressed before I even got out of bed!  Needless to say, we had two excited kids!

Kindergarten, here I come!

So excited for 3rd grade, and so TALL!
We are proud of them!
They always insist on a silly pose too!
After 3 years of loyal service, the Disney Princess lunch box finally gave up the ghost.  Laura was excited to pick out a new lunch box for this year.
My favorite picture of the day.  Big smiles, and my once nervous Nathan is waving goodbye as he heads into the building.
They both had a great day.  They chattered all the way home about their experiences.  But it sure was quiet in the house today!  Cliff and I went out for breakfast after dropping the kids off, then came home and got some work done.  We couldn't get over how quiet it was.  It certainly is a bittersweet change in our lives, but we are going to embrace it and look forward to a good year ahead.
