Vacation 2013-Lake Winnipesaukee, NH

After bidding «au revoir» to Québec, we crossed back over into the US and headed to central New Hampshire for 3 relaxing days on Lake Winnipesaukee.  A friend of Cliff's family, who used to be their neighbor back in Massachusetts, owns a house there.  Cliff has lots of great memories of visits to the lake in those years he lived in New England.  Cliff's parents had spent the whole week after Kevin's wedding at the lake, and they were still there we we arrived on Saturday.  The kids were so excited to get some bonus Grandma & Grandpa time!

The first evening, Ethie and her son Dan took us out on a boat ride at sunset because when you live on Lake Winnipesaukee, there's no need to have dessert at home or to go to the store to buy it....you can just take a boat ride to Ben & Jerry's for ice cream!

Having fun on the trip to Ben & Jerry's.
The next day was all about relaxing and enjoying the lake life.  The kids got to try lots of new things and seemed to adapt to being "lake people" rather quickly.
Breakfast on the deck, under a shade tree, looking out at the lake.  Life is good!
Laura had her first experience kayaking, and she did a great job!  Cliff took her out in the cove and showed her how to paddle.

She did a great job!
In the afternoon, we went out on the boat, this time with the goal of taking a dip in the lake.
I love summer because this guy finally gets some time to relax!
Dan taught Laura how to drive the boat.
Handsome dude ready to jump in the lake.
We found a few quiet places to stop the boat and jump in.  We even stopped right in the middle of the lake for a swim.  Both kids had a great time jumping off the boat, swimming around in their life jackets and climbing back up the ladder.
Having fun swimming in the lake.
Family swim!
Having a good time!
Of course the kids, being the age they are, got a huge kick out of the lake rules concerning going to the bathroom.  They found it very amusing that they were allowed to do something that would normally seem so inappropriate.  A few days later, we would go to a water slide park with some friends in MA, and we would have to remind them that the lake peeing rules are ONLY for when you're out in the middle of the lake. ;)
Dan gave Nathan a turn to drive too.
Soaking up the sun and the breeze!
After the boat ride...., more relaxing!
This chair is awesome.  That is all I need to say.
Solitaire with a good view behind him.
That evening, Ethie was kind enough to treat us all to a New England lobster dinner.  This was a first for me and the kids.  I am proud to say I managed to eat the whole thing.  It is a life experience I can now say I've had, although I do not think I will ever need to repeat it. ;)
Cliff was happy to dig in!
The next morning, we went out to breakfast at a local place called Griddle in the Middle.  The quirk of this place is that you cook your food right at the table on your own little griddle.  The kids thought it was need to make our own pancakes at the table.
Breakfast at Griddle in the Middle.
We spent more time relaxing and enjoying the lake.  The kids got to play, swim, kayak, paddle boat and more.
Cliff and I took a spin around the cove in the kayaks.
Ethie took the kids out for another boat ride.
Sunset boat ride on our last night.
Beautiful sunset over the lake with the mountains as a backdrop.
We took the boat to Weirs Beach for ice cream and a visit to an arcade where you can still play games for a quarter.  It was a lot of fun!
Skeeball for a quarter!  Woo hoo!
The kids enjoyed playing games for tickets.
We very much enjoyed the time at the lake.  It was the perfect relaxing interlude between the busier portions of the trip.  Next, it was on to Massachusetts!
