Vacation 2013-Day One in Québec

After bidding farewell to wonderful Montréal, we made the 3-hour drive northeast to the capital city of the province, Québec.  We checked into our hotel, an EconoLodge we found online that is just 8-10 minutes east of downtown.  The online ratings for this hotel were great, and we are happy to say it lived up to our expectation.  The lady at the front desk spoke to me in French and was very friendly when checking us in and in giving us advice on driving directions in the area.  The hotel sits right on the St. Lawrence River; it is close to downtown and even closer to our first destination, le Parc Chutes Montmorency, or Montmorency Falls Park.  I've always read about the falls in the textbooks I've taught out of, so it was exciting to be only a 5 minute drive away from it.

The falls are in the background; we are ready to climb up and cross the foot bridge over the falls!
A view looking down on the falls from the foot bridge...complete with rainbow!
A view of the falls from the other side.  Twice as high as Niagra Falls!
A view of downtown Québec just a few miles away.
The kids insisted on climbing down to a lower gazebo.  Our feet were tired, so we kept an eye on them from above.

Gorgeous!
Climbing back up....this one started running out of steam.
This one, however, was full of energy all the way down and all the way back up!
Pretending to be exhausted after climbing all those stairs.
After the falls, we headed east to the suburb of Ste.-Anne-de-Beaupré, mainly because while I was looking in the hotel room guide for area restaurants for dinner earlier that afternoon, I spotted this:
A microbrewery!
Happy to enjoy the microbrew after a long day.
Dinner with a view of the St. Lawrence River.
After dinner, we headed back to the hotel and hung out in the lovely screened gazebo behind the hotel, overlooking the river.  It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the weather.  The natives thought it was a heat wave that week in Canada, but for us Georgians, this weather was sheer bliss.
Chilling out in the gazebo.

Ahhh.........
The kids loved playing on the big swing just outside.
The next day, it would be on to visiting Old Québec....stay tuned!
