Laura's First Gymnastics Meet

Last Sunday, Laura competed in her first ever gymnastics meet.  She is competing at AAU Level 2.  She has been working so hard, training six hours per week since late summer.  I know she was nervous during the week leading up to the meet, but I think we were all excited to get her into her official leotard and get to the meet when the big day came.

Ready to head to Macon for the meet!
We are so very proud of this girl.  I'm sure it had to be scary to go out in front of all those people, but she performed her routines with such poise!  She competed on all events except bars (her coach felt she wasn't quite ready, although this last week since the meet she's started making some big breakthroughs).  She did her beam routine with no falls and almost no balance checks.  Her floor routine is coming along well.  She has one skill she still needs a spot on, but her choreography skills are very nice (thanks, I'm sure, to her ballet training).  We were also really proud to see Laura get her body over in her vault with no spot/coach assistance.  This is a very recent development for her!

For it being her first meet, and for her only starting her competitive training two months ago, we are very pleased with how Laura did.  She had a solid score on floor despite the spot, a promising showing on vault, and she only missed a medal on beam by .05 points!

We do have video of the meet, but we are having trouble loading it on here.  Hopefully, we'll figure it out soon!
