Bookworms

My inner nerd is smiling this week.  Not only is Nathan's reading really coming along, but Laura's had a positive shift in her reading lately too.  This was the scene at our house yesterday around 4:00pm:

Laura has always been a strong reader.  She reads with great fluency, and her vocabulary is generally very good.  However, reading comprehension has been an up and down situation for her, causing her (and subsequently us) to have some frustrations in doing her nightly reading for homework.  We've been working on this a lot with her this year, and we are starting to see great improvement.  The result is a little girl who seems more naturally motivated to read once again.  She just completed a chapter book this week that was rated a 3.7 (approximately late-third grade level) by the Accelerated Reader program they use at her school.  After acing her AR quiz on that book, she checked out another chapter book yesterday (level 4.4), and then proceeded to read all 96 pages, cover to cover, last night before going to gymnastics class.  It was great to watch her devour a book and laugh out loud at all the funny parts.  Here's to many more literary adventures in her future!
