Pet Parade, We Read, Jazz Fest & Math Team

It's been another busy week here.  Our regular programming at the library is winding down for this school year before they go on hiatus in May to prepare for Summer Reading Club.  Since Ms. Anne is retiring as of this coming week, we've been trying to get to as many programs as possible while she's still there.  This week at story time, we talked about pets.  They had asked the kids to bring in a favorite stuffed animal for the event.  Nathan took in Buddy, his new stuffed dog he got at Six Flags last week.  We had a pet parade in which the kids marched throughout the library with their stuffed animals to some Sousa marches.

Me & Nathan (and Buddy the green dog) at the pet parade!
On Wednesday, we went to the last We Read on Wednesday program of the school year.  The kids love this program.  They get to read a book to one of the librarians and then pick out a prize.  Because it was the last We Read of the season, they got two prizes and a lollipop this time.  Score!

Nathan reads "Boats, Boats, Boats" to Ms. Anne.
Laura reads "Arthur Turns Green" to Ms. Sue.
Friday night was the annual Georgia College Jazz Festival.  Cliff ordered up perfect weather for the second year in a row.  We put out chairs and a blanket, had a picnic dinner, and enjoyed listening to several area jazz bands with some friends.  The kids ran around and played all evening.  Cliff's jazz band did a great job.  I love this event because it reminds (albeit on a much, much smaller scale) of our nights going to Jazz in June back in Lincoln.  It's a nice, relaxed vibe on a beautiful campus lawn.

Nathan got to play with his buddy Joshua.
Nathan and Laura enjoyed lots of games of tag with the other kids.
Nathan had fun chasing little Will around.
Will is my friend's son and he is SO cute!  He and I had a good time playing with a fire truck.  I got him to laugh and laugh.
Nathan shows Joshua the joy of Silly Putty.
My friend Beth took this picture.  I love it!
I love this handsome little guy to pieces.
This morning was the final Math Mania competition of the school year.  Laura and 8 other kids represented Creekside in the second grade competition against kids from 3 other schools.  Laura was in the zone during the first round in the gym!  She held up her dry erase board with confidence for many of her answers.  It paid off: out of the 9 Creeksiders, 6 made it to the second round (held in a classroom down the hall; no parents allowed).  We waited patiently in the hallway as kid after kid was eliminated from the second round, but there was no sign of Laura.  We are pleased to announce that the reason for this is....she placed in the top 3!!  Laura came in second place for second grade in the whole district!  We are SUPER proud of her!!  We went out for a celebratory meal at McDonald's afterward.

Laura is very proud of her trophy.  Her classmate, Davis, came in 3rd place.  Nice job, Creekside!
Now, it's on to finals week at the college for me and Cliff.  Then, in a few short weeks, Laura will be out for the summer too!  Can't wait!
