On July 1, we set off on our vacation adventures. We had a lot of driving to do to ultimately arrive in northern VT on July 3 in time for the wedding festivities. So, we decided to break up the 2 long days of driving by enjoying a day in Washington, D.C. We drove into downtown and parked near the Air & Space Museum and then set off to walk the National Mall.
| Ready to explore the Mall! |
| The Washington Monument is still closed and under scaffolding due to earthquake damage, so this is as close as we could get to it. |
| Laura has been practicing using the camera, and she did a good job of this shot of the White House. |
| The World War II Memorial was new to all of us. It is a great addition to the Mall. |
| I still love the view of the reflecting pool. |
| Ready to climb up and visit Abe! |
| A nice couple took our family picture at the Lincoln Memorial. |
After lunch at an outdoor café along the Mall, we finished our walk and headed to the Smithsonian Museums.
| Ready to head into the Natural History Museum. |
| Investigating with microscopes in the Discovery Zone area. |
| We loved the hall of mammals, but I think this pouncing tiger was my favorite. |
| Laura is ready for the 3-D Imax movie about surfing in Tahiti. |
| Next, we went on to the Air & Space Museum. |
| It is so cool that these museums are free! |
| Having fun in the kids' area! |

We had a great time, even if it was only for a day. It was great to introduce our kids to the nation's capital, and hopefully they will want to return when they are older.
