Lots of Animals

We have gotten to see an unusual amount of animals this week. There are two reasons for the this. First, on Labor Day we went to a local park to have a cookout with our neighbors. The park, Pioneers Park, is a very large park on the southwest edge of Lincoln. In the back of the park, there is an area where you can observe certain wildlife. We saw buffalo, elk and geese. We couldn't get great pictures of them, but I did capture a picture of the elk grazing on a hillside with the sunset behind them.
Also, today was Lincoln Public Schools Excite (Head Start) family day at the Lincoln Children's Zoo. We got free admission to the zoo. Our neighbor, Lori, and her boys went with us. It is not a big zoo by any means, but for young kids like ours, it's all they need. Among the animals we saw today: reindeer, ponies, goats, bats, lemurs, bald eagles, baboons, camels, turtles, leopard, bobcat, parrots, emu, wallaby, seal (including a demonstration of her in the water), monkeys...... There was a butterfly house, aptly named "Laura's Butterfly House", but unfortunately it was already closed for the season. We also got to ride the train, which is really pretty pointless since it circles the OUTSIDE of the zoo (thereby offering excellent views of the outside fencing of the animal exhibits and the streets that surround the zoo area!), but for little kids, a train ride is a train ride. Here are some pictures from our day:
Everything continues to go well here. Classes and marching band are keeping Cliff busy, and my class at the new YMCA is going very well with very good attendance. I can't believe it's already mid-September!
