Accentuate the Positive

It never signals good things ahead when your furnace starts making weird noises. Yesterday I noticed it rattling loudly enough that A. I could hear it over the radio upstairs, and B. Laura even noticed it. It was still putting out heat, so I tried not to worry. But as I got ready for bed last night I had that thought of "Man, why can't I get warm tonight??" I checked the thermostat--60 degrees. Uh oh!! Out came extra blankets for everyone. By morning we were at 53 degrees--ouch! We made a call to our heating and AC people and got someone out right away. Turns out the combustion motor was fried. As the nice man put it, "outside of replacing the whole furnace, it's the most expensive part to replace." Naturally............
So, we did what we had to in order to have heat again, and in an effort to always look at the positive side of what could be construed as a crummy situation:
1. We were still under a service contract with this company until Jan. 31, so we got a discount.
2. The whole thing was resolved quickly with none of us having to live like eskimos.
3. This is the most important---at least we didn't have to buy a whole new furnace!!! :-)

Maybe you should ask the federal government for some of that $700 billion to help fix your furnace weather you need it or not. Why not get your piece of the pie.
